KATRINA

Occupation: Illustrator.

How would you describe your personal style?
It would definitely reflect my personality. It’s creative, sexy. It’s something that leaves a lasting impression. It’s something that expresses my moods, something that expresses my interests.

How long have you had this particular look or style?
Since I was a teenager, because that’s when you sort of get into the rebellious stage and you want to start to express yourself.

From day to day, does your style vary or is it kind of the same?
It has the same core, but it does vary. It’s elegant, comfortable. It has to be comfortable. Function and fashion play equal roles to me.

Where does inspiration come from?
As you walk down the street, as you maybe look at television, or flip through books and magazines, you always come across things that inspire you.

Where did you get your scarf?
This scarf belonged to a friend of mine. His grandmother passed away on Valentine’s Day two years ago. And she was from England, and she had a house full of clothes and trinkets. Everything was from England. I noticed a bag of shawls, and I looked through them. I took many of them, because they were so beautiful, but this one in particular I wore, because I quite often wear blue on Mondays.

What are your other interests? What fascinates you?
I like to read books on magic and alchemy. For instance, one of my favourite authors is Fiona Horne. She’s a modern-day witch. Also, (one of my favourite books is) “Face Forward”, by Kevyn Aucoin, the make-up artist. I love to read the “Wu-Tang Manual”, and I love to listen to Wu-Tang, because they are lyrical geniuses. I love poetry, I love music.

How did you become an illustrator and what do you enjoy about it?
Well, I started drawing when I was a kid… After the years went by, the drawings started to get better. And ‘til this day, I still love to draw. I love to draw people in cartoon. Cartoons. They’re a lot of fun.

What are your goals and ambitions?
I’d like to start my own empire.

What will that consist of?
It will be love, happiness, faith, trust, courage, justice, perseverance, endurance, lots of cartoons, lots of music–All the ingredients we need to make this world what it’s supposed to be.

Any final words on personal style or street fashion?
Be sure that what you’re wearing is reflecting positive energy. We all have our bad moments, our bad days, but don’t use fashion as a weapon. Fashion is something positive. Use it to express the positive things in you.
