How would you describe your personal style?

What are your style influences/inspirations?
My mother – big time!! She was a designer and had impeccable taste, elegance and a real knack for putting things together. And I also draw a lot of inspiration from European women. I think it’s in their DNA to be able to put things together in an elegant, sophisticated way without overstating.
Why is fashion/personal style important to you?
I believe it’s a way of taking care of ourselves, of paying attention to ourselves. Also, it’s our statement to the world. Not that we should be judged on what we look like, but it certainly makes an impression.
Before a concert, how much do you think about what you’re going to wear?
I think about it a lot, because it’s twofold. Not only do I want to have something that’s interesting and striking and fits with the vibe that I’m trying to put across, but it also has to be comfortable to wear. Also, the fabric. It has to really breathe, otherwise it makes me nuts. It makes me crazy on stage.
Where do you like to shop?
I don’t have one special place. I tend to find things in my travels and piece things together. I could rummage through vintage places and then piece it together with something I found at Banana Republic or David Dixon.
Is there anything you would never wear?
Remnants of the 80’s are coming back in fashion – I just can’t go there again! Been there, done that, have the shoulder pads to prove it!
Who are some of your favourite designers?
Canadian designer David Dixon but out of the Europeans, Dolce e Gabbana, Donatella Versace, Armani and out of the Americans, Calvin Klein
Whose style do you admire?
My Mom, Annie Lennox, Anna Magnani
What was the last cool thing you bought?
This fabulous necklace from a vendor on Queen Street. Very Tibetan in its look.
What is your next must-have purchase?
Must have one of those Panama hats from Big It Up – must have summer hat!!
What is your favourite city (cities)?
London (UK), New York, Paris
What can’t you live without?
A really functional, leather big purse that can carry all the things I need in my day.

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Last good movie you saw?
UP, it was incredible!!
What music are you listening to lately?
Trentemoller, Massive Attack, a lot of classical but also picked up again Nicola Conte and Morcheeba
What would you like to do in the future?
Spend more time on my art – music and writing – in Italy and hopefully divide my time between here and there.
